Tillsammans med en kamrat skriver jag som slutarbete i min vidareutbildning D-uppsats. Den ska utmynna i magisterexamen när vi blir färdiga distriktssköterskor och naturligtvis skriver vi om LCHF. Det är en kvalitativ intervjustudie om upplevelsen av livsstilsförändring hos typ II diabetiker som gått från tidigare traditionell diabeteskost till lågkolhydrat/högfettskost.

En informant har levt med sin diabetes upp emot 20 år. Den har trots diverse både medikamentella, fysiska och andra livsstilsförändringsformer vare sig lindrats eller stabiliserats. Vikten har alltjämt ökat, kurvan på långtidssockret har hela tiden haft en uppåtgående trend och som grädde på moset har det krävts tre olika blodtryckssänkare i tablettform för att få ett acceptabelt blodtryck. Informanten har även ätit mängder med blodfettssänkande medel.

Lagom till ettårsdagen med LCHF kunde det konstateras minus 25kg, alla mediciner utsatta, HbA1c 4,6%, normalt midjemått, inga snarkningar, inga besvär av RLS (restless legs), inga fler sura uppstötningar och ett stabilt blodtryck på 125/70 utan medicin. Informanten är besviken. Inte minst på alla pengar som gått till apotek och läkemedelsindustri under åren. Tjugo år med frikort hos apoteket betyder i rena slantar 36'000kr för den enskilde. Förutom allt dåligt mående.
